Penticton packs Gyro Park to celebrate Canada Day

The event featured speeches, bagpipes, live music and free cupcakes as organizers hosted families and visitors for a 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. celebration.

  • Large crowds packed Gyro Park in Penticton on Wednesday, July 1, to celebrate Canada's 159th birthday with live entertainment, food vendors, and a formal opening ceremony.
  • Organized by the Downtown Penticton Business Improvement Association and the City, the event ran from 11 a.m. to three p.m. with a petting zoo, food trucks, vendors, and kids zone.
  • Blues rockers the Dave Barber Trio kicked off festivities, followed by Ari Neufeld singing the national anthem and The Dirt Road Kings performing. Bagpipes featured prominently during the opening ceremony.
  • Penticton Indian Band Chief Greg Gabriel, Helena Konanz , and Deputy Mayor Jason Reynen addressed attendees. "We live in the most wonderful country in the world," Konanz said.
  • Fireworks hosted by the Penticton Lakeside Resort conclude the day's festivities at 10 p.m. above Okanagan Lake Park, capping Canada Day celebrations in the community.
