Mecklenburg County could vote on a new transit tax this year under House legislation

A House committee advanced legislation that would let Mecklenburg County voters decide on a 1% sales tax to fund transportation projects. The tax would help pay for Charlotte’s $25B transit plan, with revenues split between roads, rail and public transit. A referendum could appear as soon as Nov. 4.
