Pennsylvania State Police trooper shot, killed in West Caln Township, officials say
Corporal Timothy O'Connor, a 15-year Pennsylvania State Police veteran, was killed during a traffic stop involving an erratic driver; the suspect died by suicide, investigators said.
- In West Caln Township, a Pennsylvania State Police trooper was shot and killed during a traffic stop Sunday night near Compass and Michael roads and was taken to Paoli Hospital.
- Corporal O'Connor responded to a report of an erratic driver at 8:16 p.m. and stopped the vehicle about eight minutes later near Route 10/Compass Road and Michael Road.
- After a radio transmission indicating he was stopping the vehicle, the driver inside the vehicle opened fire and struck O'Connor, who then went silent, and other officers found a very bad situation, Bivens said.
- Gov. Josh Shapiro ordered flags lowered Monday and visited the family at Paoli Hospital, and a solemn procession Monday morning departed while Compass Road remains closed.
- Investigators will be looking into the shooter's background and possible motives, as de Barrena-Sarobe said the incident is being investigated as a murder-suicide, and 'Unfortunately we just don't have a lot of answers as to why this happened right now'.
