Oil spills in Mexican soils and seas occur more frequently every year and in the term of President Claudia Sheinbaum has not been the exception. From the beginning of her six-year period in October 2024 to March 2026, Mexican Petroleum (Pemex) recorded a total of 1,490 spills and leaks. This is 56% more than the incidents reported by the administration of former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador in the first and a half years of his term.
