Pearland police give update after missing 7-year-old girl with autism found dead in retention pond

Skyler Hopson, a nonverbal autistic girl, was found deceased after a multi-agency search involving K9 units, drones, and a helicopter tracked her to a retention pond.

  • On Wednesday, Skyler Hopson, a 7-year-old Pearland girl, was found dead and the Amber Alert was canceled after her body was recovered at 2:45 p.m.
  • Authorities said the Amber Alert was issued because Hopson is autistic and nonverbal after she wandered from home with her iPad, officials said Wednesday morning.
  • Using scent tracking and device pings, investigators deployed K9 units, drones and the Houston Police Department helicopter, with TEXSAR assisting the search teams.
  • The Pearland Police Department said it is devastated by the search results and urged local residents to check camera footage while noting search volunteers are not needed.
  • Hopson was last seen Wednesday morning in the 2000 block of Sunset Springs Drive in Shadow Creek Ranch wearing a pink and white tie-dye dress; she has black hair, brown eyes, weighs 77 pounds, and stands three feet, seven inches tall.
