PCO appeals to media: Exercise restraint in coverage to avoid copy cats
The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) on Wednesday appealed to media organizations to refrain from including details about school shooting incidents that may encourage “copycat acts” or crimes committed by imitating previous crimes.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has called on those who continue to share and post graphic photos and videos of the school shooting in Zamboanga City. According to the DSWD, exposing the faces or identities of children, whether they are victims, witnesses, or minors involved in the incident, is a clear violation of the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act or Republic Act 7610. …
