Millions Pledged to Help Survivors of Abuse, Violence and Stalking
The grant will help fund specialist advisers, legal support and stalking services after the services assisted more than 2,600 victims in six months.
- Thames Valley Crime Commissioner Matthew Barber awarded more than £3.1 million to 18 specialist support services across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, and Milton Keynes over two years.
- The Government's 4.2% funding cut to PCCs in 2025/26 created financial uncertainty, though Barber protected services from reductions and committed to passing on a 2% Ministry of Justice increase for 2026/27.
- Funded roles include Independent Sexual Violence Advisers, Independent Domestic Violence Advisers, and Stalking Advocacy Service staff; between April and September 2025, these services supported more than 2,600 victims and survivors.
- CEO Laura Hunter of Flag DV said, "Funding from the OPCC enables FLAG DV to continue," as Aurora New Dawn and other organizations welcomed the two-year grant.
- Barber confirmed funding amounts for 2027/28 totaling over £1.59 million, stating, "This will give the sector and post-holders more stability and ensure that victims will continue to have access to the vital support these 18 organisations provide.
