Paul Pelosi in hit-and-run in California, car left with major damage, authorities say
Investigators said Pelosi drove away after striking a parked car, and officials found no alcohol in his system.
Paul Pelosi, 86-year-old husband of Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, is suspected of striking a parked vehicle on the 6700 block of Yount Street in Yountville around 2:30 p.m. Friday and driving away from the scene.
A 911 caller reported a brown convertible traveling northbound on Yount Street hit an unoccupied, legally parked vehicle, causing significant rear damage, with the witness observing the driver briefly stop before leaving.
Deputies discovered the disabled brown convertible partially blocking Yountville Cross Road and identified Pelosi through his California driver's license; he told investigators he hit something but did not know what it was, so he continued driving until the vehicle became inoperable.
Pelosi was not arrested, consistent with California misdemeanor arrest laws, and preliminary testing showed a blood alcohol level of 0.00, ruling out driving under the influence.
The Napa County District Attorney's Office will review the case for possible prosecution, while a California DMV re-evaluation referral form will be submitted as standard procedure for elderly drivers.
