Passengers warned ahead of 'busiest weekend of the summer' for trains

The RAC forecasts 20 million leisure trips across England, Wales and Northern Ireland between Friday 28 August and Bank Holiday Monday, marking the busiest bank holiday weekend since 2015.
Friday is expected to be the busiest day, with 4.1 million getaway journeys predicted, followed by 3.8 million trips on Saturday, 3.1 million on Sunday, and 3.4 million on Monday as day-trippers share roads with returning holidaymakers.
Transport analytics company Inrix identified major congestion hotspots including the M5 south from Bristol to Somerset. Motorists are warned to perform "basic vehicle checks" before travelling to avoid avoidable faults.
ScotRail is adding extra services from Edinburgh for Bon Jovi fans travelling to Murrayfield on Friday. Network Rail warns of disruptions on the East Coast Main Line between London King's Cross and Peterborough on Sunday.
RAC spokesperson Harriet Hernando advises drivers to "carry plenty of water" and set off before 10am if warm weather continues. Meanwhile, 13 per cent of drivers have scrapped plans due to higher fuel prices.
