Person Rescued From Water as Security Threat Leads to Arrest on CalMac Ferry
CalMac said all 329 passengers were moved off the ferry as police and coastguard teams searched the vessel and later stood down the incident.
On Friday, 329 passengers were evacuated from CalMac's Caledonian Isles in Ardrossan after a passenger rescue was followed by a reported "BOMB threat."
The Caledonian Isles was traveling from Brodick to Ardrossan when a passenger went overboard around 5.30pm; crew rescued him, but he then made a "security threat" to his rescuers.
Police Scotland arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the incident while all 329 passengers were guided to a nearby Asda car park as emergency teams searched the vessel for over two hours.
Authorities confirmed the threat was not credible, allowing passengers to return on board and recover their vehicles after the situation was resolved. CalMac CEO Duncan Mackison said the crew handled it "professionally."
All remaining sailings from Ardrossan on Friday were cancelled to allow crew debriefing and emergency equipment replenishment, with morning sailings also suspended pending a 10.30am review.
