Pope to Have Lunch with 200 Poor People From Rome in Castel Gandolfo

  • The gathering coincides with 2026's 400th anniversary of the papal summer residence tradition, which Pope Urban VIII began in 1626. Father Tadeusz said the celebrations commemorate four centuries of the Successors of Peter in Castel Gandolfo.
  • Cardinal Fabio Baggio, Director General of the Laudato Centre for Higher Education, stated that Borgo Laudato was created to demonstrate that "the care of creation and the care of the human person are one and the same mission."
  • Organized by the Laudato Centre, the Dicastery for the Service of Charity, and the Diocese of Rome, the event unites Church institutions and charities that support vulnerable people throughout Italy.
  • Launched with the Diocese of Albano in August 2025, this annual event will invite a different Diocese each year to offer those on the peripheries a day of "listening, closeness, and hope.
