Parents arrested after 6-month-old found inside hot car
Police say the 6-month-old was found unresponsive in a parked car and taken for medical care after a passer-by called 911.
On Saturday, St. Louis Metropolitan Police arrested parents K'Yana Curry, 32, and Varden Lovett, 51, after discovering their 6-month-old son unresponsive in a hot car at the 1400 block of N. Kingshighway Boulevard.
Court documents state the couple attended the Urban League Expo when Lovett placed the infant in a car with broken air conditioning and left the child alone to rejoin Curry inside the event.
A passerby called 911 after noticing the infant, who was covered in sweat amid temperatures over 90 degrees; police forced entry and the St. Louis Fire Department revived the unresponsive child.
Both Curry and Lovett face charges of first-degree endangering the welfare of a child resulting in physical injury and are being held with no bond.
The child remains in stable condition at a hospital, while court documents reveal Lovett has a criminal history spanning 1993 to 2025, which authorities are examining as part of the ongoing investigation.
