Paralympic champion's devastating reason for ending her life after 'last wish'

The Belgian Paralympic champion had endured severe pain and paralysis since age 14 and had signed euthanasia papers in 2008.

Marieke Vervoort was a Belgian Paralympic wheelchair racer who won multiple medals across her career. She made headlines in 2016 after saying she was considering euthanasia, having signed the papers in 2008, and died by euthanasia in Belgium in October 2019.
