Palmer state senator becomes 7th Republican to enter Alaska governor’s race

ALASKA, JUL 25 – Shelley Hughes joins a crowded Republican field focused on education, Alaska LNG, and Medicaid concerns as Gov. Dunleavy reaches term limits, with the primary set for August 2026.

Sen. Shelley Hughes joined a slate of candidates that include the lieutenant governor, a former state senator, the Mat-Su Borough mayor and an Anchorage business owner, among others.
