Pakistani prime minister to nominate Trump for Nobel Peace Prize — again
Pakistan renominates Donald Trump for Nobel Peace Prize for his role in brokering ceasefires between Hamas and Israel and easing India-Pakistan tensions, credited with saving millions of lives.
- On Monday, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced he would nominate President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize at the Gaza peace summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, shortly after Trump signed related documents.
- Sharif cited President Donald Trump’s role in securing a Gaza ceasefire and hostage agreement between Hamas and Israel, and stopping a war between India and Pakistan this year.
- At the summit, delegations including Qatar, Turkiye, Jordan, Saudi and UAE leaders signed Gaza peace documents in Sharm el-Sheikh, and Sharif thanked the regional mediators.
- However, the nomination drew immediate controversy as U.S. attacks on Iran after the ceasefire sparked debate, while Maria Corina Machado last week said, `I dedicate this prize to the suffering people of Venezuela and to President Trump for his decisive support of our cause!`
- This is Pakistan's second nomination of Trump, following Shehbaz Sharif's June endorsement; other endorsers include Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel, and nominations are allowed from national lawmakers and government officials.
