Pakistani military aircraft crashes during training flight, killing 2 pilots
A board of inquiry will determine the cause after the trainer aircraft went down on a routine sortie, killing both pilots.
On Monday, a Pakistan Air Force trainer aircraft crashed during a routine training mission near Mardan, killing both pilots: Flight Lieutenant Muhammad Qasim Abdullah and Lieutenant Taha Abbasi.
Air Headquarters has constituted a board of inquiry to ascertain the exact technical cause of the accident, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations . Rescue teams were dispatched to the site immediately.
President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir expressed "deep grief" over the loss of lives. They extended heartfelt condolences to the families in separate statements.
The crash follows another aviation accident five days ago near Muzaffarabad when a Pakistan Army Aviation Mi-17 helicopter crashed during take-off due to a "technical fault," killing all personnel on board.
Military training crashes have occurred periodically in Pakistan, though investigation findings are rarely released. A 2015 crash near Mansehra killed twelve people, and two army helicopter accidents occurred during the second half of 2022.
A fighter jet has crashed in the Pakistani town of Katlang. The two pilots were killed, and three other people who happened to be at the crash site were injured.
