With India having placed the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance, the project demonstrates that India is now actively creating infrastructure to use Indus River water in border areas and support its own communities before the river flows downstream to Pakistan.
India has built its first rock check dam on the Indus river in Leh, Ladakh. Cement is not used in this dam built in Upshi, but it has been built with natural large stones. Due to this, the water of the Indus river is rising by about 10 feet and about 4 million litres of water is being stored.
