Rain Expected in Many Parts of Luzon Due to 'Amihan', Shear Line

The low pressure area has a high chance of becoming tropical depression Verbena and will bring 100-200 mm of rain in several provinces, PAGASA said.

  • On Sunday, PAGASA warned regions in Mindanao, the Visayas and Luzon to brace for significant rain after the LPA was last spotted 445 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur at 8 pm on Sunday, November 23.
  • PAGASA said the LPA has a high chance of developing into a tropical depression within 24 hours and the shear line is forecast to trigger rains in most of Luzon on Monday.
  • Moving westward at 20 kph, Verbena is forecast to make landfall near northeastern Mindanao Monday afternoon with sustained winds of 45 kph and gusts up to 55 kph.
  • Heavy to intense rain of 100-200 mm is forecast in many provinces, with floods and landslides likely; PAGASA advised the public to stay alert and monitor updates as rain reaches Metro Manila.
  • Forecast models indicate intensification into a tropical storm after entering the West Philippine Sea, expected to cross the Visayas and northern Palawan until November 26 and exit by Wednesday morning.
