Paedophile camp leader Jon Ruben jailed for 23 years for sexually abusing children he drugged with sweets
Jon Ruben exploited his veterinary skills and position in the community to drug and abuse vulnerable boys, receiving nearly 24 years in prison for premeditated offenses.
- At Leicester Crown Court on February 6, Jon Ruben, 76-year-old former veterinary surgeon and summer camp leader, was sentenced to 23 years and 10 months plus an eight-year extended licence.
- Prosecutor Mary Prior KC said that over the weekend of July 26 to 28, 2025, Ruben used his authority at Stathern Lodge to poison 10 boys with sedatives bought on the dark web before abusing them.
- He poisoned 8 boys aged between eight and 11 via a 'sweet game'—the children chewed three sweets that caused sickness, disorientation, and eight were hospitalised.
- Families of the victims said they have been living the 'most horrendous nightmare' and describe lasting harm including self-harm, while Family Liaison Officers and partner organisations provide ongoing support.
- Leicestershire Police said the investigation remains ongoing, are contacting schools and organisations linked to Ruben, and urge anyone with information to use the Public Portal or call 101.
