Pa. House committee unanimously advances foster youth benefit bill
Bipartisan HB 151, sponsored by Representatives Rick Krajewski and Sheryl Delozier, was unanimously approved by the Pennsylvania House Children and Youth Committee to support foster youth benefits.
The bill stops Pennsylvania agencies from intercepting Social Security benefits, including survivors' benefits, intended for foster youth.
Intercepted funds would instead be saved in accounts accessible to foster youth after leaving care to aid their transition.
Delozier and Krajewski stated that these funds could prevent homelessness and support education and healthcare for foster youth, highlighting the bill's potential impact.
