Oyo Confirms Arrival Of Two Surveillance Aircraft To Boost Security Operations
Governor Seyi Makinde said the aircraft will begin operations immediately with the Nigerian Air Force to improve aerial intelligence and support security agencies.
- On Tuesday, the Oyo State Government took delivery of two Diamond DA42 Multi-Purpose Platform surveillance aircraft at Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan, procured for N7.76 billion.
- Governor Makinde announced procurement of these ISR platforms in July 2025 to manage Oyo State's vast landmass amid persistent kidnapping and banditry challenges across the South-west.
- The Nigerian Air Force will operate the aircraft in Nigeria under a Memorandum of Understanding, providing ISR capabilities to support the Amotekun Corps and other security agencies in monitoring criminal activities.
- Makinde disclosed the aircraft would become operational immediately through the partnership, stating, "We're hitting the ground running" to complement ground security personnel and strengthen the state's security architecture.
- The investment addresses unforeseen security challenges, including the abduction of pupils and teachers from three schools in Oriire Local Government Area, where all surviving victims were rescued after 56 days in captivity.
