Oxford County deputy shoots man accused of pointing gun at law enforcement
The deputy was placed on administrative leave as state investigators review the shooting, and Junkins faces charges after being treated for hand injuries.
On Monday, Oxford County Deputy Andre Chasse shot Aric Junkins, 40, in the hands during a confrontation on Porter Road in Brownfield after authorities say Junkins leveled a gun at police responding to a domestic dispute.
Junkins' wife disputed the official account on Facebook, stating her husband was suicidal and held a BB gun, claiming police "did not ask him to put down" the weapon before firing.
Following the shooting, Junkins was transported to Bridgton Hospital before being transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment; Chasse was placed on administrative leave pending investigation.
The Maine Attorney General Office is investigating the shooting as standard procedure for deadly force incidents, while Junkins faces charges including domestic violence reckless conduct and criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon.
Three reviews will follow the incident: an investigation by the Attorney General Office, an internal assessment by the Oxford County Sheriff, and a review by the Deadly Force Review Panel made up of about 15 members.
