More People Charged in Iowa City Pedestrian Mall Fight, Shooting on April 19
Police say the pair helped the accused shooter by supplying a gun and arranging his escape after five people were wounded.
Iowa City Police arrested 17-year-old Ka'Mari Dozier on Tuesday, May 26, charging him with five counts of attempted murder for allegedly handing a firearm to shooter Damarian M. Jones during the April 19 Pedestrian Mall incident.
A large fight broke out in the Pedestrian Mall around 1:45 a.m. on April 19, during which Dozier allegedly passed a gun to Jones, who then fired six shots into the crowd, injuring five people.
Investigators also charged 18-year-old Isaiah Bates with accessory after the fact and obstruction, alleging he arranged Jones' transportation out of Iowa City and searched online for methods to dispose of firearms.
Beyond the primary suspects, Iowa City Police charged 13 additional individuals with participating in a riot in connection with the fight that preceded the shooting, which resulted in five people being injured.
Authorities continue investigating and offer up to $1,000 through Iowa City Area Crime Stoppers for information or security footage that leads to arrests; tips can be submitted anonymously via the P3 Tips app.
