Over 350 Earthquakes Recorded Since Friday in Part of Southern California
Cal OES and local agencies are monitoring the swarm as scientists say Southern California fault systems often produce rapid clusters of small quakes.
Since Saturday morning, more than 350 minor earthquakes have rattled the Brawley area, located between the Salton Sea and the U.S.-Mexico border, with no major damage or injuries reported.
Seismologists note the activity is common for the Brawley Seismic Zone, an area near the San Andreas Fault known as a "natural laboratory" of fault systems where intricate geological structures trigger rapid sequences of small quakes.
The United States Geological Survey reported the seismic activity included a 4.7-magnitude quake, while the Southern California Seismic Network updates data every few minutes to track potential impacts.
Brawley officials and the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services continue to monitor the region, confirming no major infrastructure damage has been identified within the city.
Experts remind residents that personal preparedness remains vital, encouraging the public to review emergency kits; while officials state no major earthquake is imminent, they emphasize readiness for "the big one.
