Over 200 professors, academics leave KASU over poor conditions

ASUU-KASU said poor pay and stalled agreement implementation pushed more than 200 lecturers out and warned of an indefinite strike if authorities do not act.

  • On Monday, the Kaduna State University chapter of ASUU reported that more than 200 lecturers have resigned, with Chairman Abubakar Abdullahi citing poor conditions and non-implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU Agreement.
  • Implementation of the Federal Government-ASUU Agreement remains stalled more than eight months after it took effect, leaving KASU academic staff among the least-paid workers nationwide.
  • Abdullahi warned that the exodus of experienced lecturers negatively impacts teaching, research, and academic development, while the union cited unresolved issues including university autonomy, excessive workloads, and promotion arrears.
  • The Union issued a two-week ultimatum to the Kaduna State Government and university authorities to domesticate the agreement, warning that failure to act could trigger an indefinite strike.
  • Visitor Gov. Uba Sani has been notified of the situation, and the union remains hopeful for intervention before the deadline, reaffirming its commitment to lawful pursuit of demands.
