Over 2 lakh Indians gave up their citizenship in 2024, says govt data

INDIA, JUL 24 – More than 200,000 Indians renounced citizenship in 2024, a slight decrease from 2023 but still well above pre-pandemic figures, officials said.

The renunciation process may take about 60 days from the date of uploading of signed hard copy of the declarant by the concerned Indian Mission/Post or concerned DM/DC office. The Indian Mission/Post or DM/DC office then uploads the signed hard copy after verification of the documents.
