Baby Goat Abandoned at Birth Now Being Raised by Sheepdogs

STUDLEY GRANGE FARM PARK NEAR SWINDON, WILTSHIRE, ENGLAND, AUG 11 – Rejected by her mother at birth, Lil the baby goat was raised by two Border collies and now helps herd the farm's 14 kids, says farm manager Julia Stewart.

  • On June 3, 2025, Lil, the runt goat shunned by her mother at Studley Grange Farm Park near Swindon, Wiltshire, was adopted by Border collies Luna and Nya.
  • Earlier this year, farm staff at Studley Grange Farm Park near Swindon, Wiltshire, had to bottle feed Lil and wrap her in an old-sock suit after she was shunned by her mother Betsy.
  • The team plans to continue Lil’s sheepdog training with Nya as her tutor, with the farm’s dogs washing, playing with, and snuggling her, Ms Stewart said.
  • Despite thriving, Lil becomes very vocal when left with her goat peers, preferring to follow Julia Stewart and the dogs, and Stewart plans to continue her training.
  • Lil is one of 14 kids born this year at Studley Grange Farm Park near Swindon, Wiltshire, which has 15 adult goats in its petting zoo, and the farm also produces lamb, pork and eggs from ex-battery chickens.
