Mandera County faces severe livestock losses and water shortages amid drought, with over 20 million people in the region needing food aid, says Famine Early Warning Systems Network.

- Mandera County has had no rain since May, pushing the area toward a water emergency with water sources and pasture exhausted, forcing herds to trek up to 30 kilometres to Lulis while Banissa man-made reservoir lies dry.
- Bishar Mohamed traveled more than 150 kilometres with a herd of 170 goats, and many animals died en route, while Banissa's main hospital has only eight tins of therapeutic milk remaining, serving around 200,000 people.
- The NDMA has placed about nine counties on alert, and Mandera is at the alarm phase, with enrolment in Jabi Bar dropping by more than half, leaving only around 100 children in school, according to Ali Haji Shabure.
- FEWS NET recently said 20 to 25 million people in Kenya need humanitarian food aid, while aid cuts left some WFP units without supplies for six months, local residents report exhaustion and pleas for help.
