Oswald Set for Feb. 2027; Favreau Previews Live-Action/Animated Series

- On Friday, Disney announced a three-part miniseries titled "Oswald" at the D23 fan event in Anaheim, California, with the live-action and hand-drawn animated project arriving on Disney Plus on February 17, 2027.
- Created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks in 1927, the character fell into obscurity after Universal Pictures took control in 1928. Disney reacquired the rights in 2006 by trading sportscaster Al Michaels to NBCUniversal.
- Favreau described the series as blending live action and hand-drawn animation, featuring historic locations like the old Hyperion Studios in Silver Lake. The cast includes Kathryn Hahn, Steve Martin, Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Mykal-Michelle Harris, and Ryder Allen.
- Following an earthquake, Oswald escapes into the real world and befriends middle school students in the plot. Production took place at Disneyland Park, with composer John Debney confirmed to score the series.
- Premiering nearly 100 years after Oswald's debut in the 1927 animated short "Trolley Troubles," the miniseries revitalizes the character who previously appeared in the 2010 video game "Epic Mickey.
