Osun Election: INEC Adds SDP Candidate, Ajala on Ballot

INEC said the ballot now includes the Social Democratic Party candidate after a court order, and it is reprinting result sheets and ballot papers.

  • The Independent National Electoral Commission officially included Social Democratic Party candidate Francis Olugbenga Ajala and running mate Faseke Babajimi Oladipo on the ballot for Saturday's Osun State governorship election.
  • This addition follows a July 22 Federal High Court ruling in Abuja that mandated INEC accept and publish the SDP candidate's details, resolving a legal challenge to his exclusion.
  • Consequently, the Commission reprinted ballot papers and result sheets to reflect the new candidate, bringing the total number of political parties contesting the election to 15.
  • On Thursday night, the Commission commenced distributing sensitive materials from Central Bank premises in Osogbo to 30 Local Government Areas, supervised by Osun Resident Electoral Commissioner Oluwatoyin Babalola.
  • Umar Mohammed, Senior Programme Manager at the Kimpat Development Initiative, commended the deployment strategy but warned that rainfall could hinder delivery to distant areas.
