A weekend attack by a female bear on two men and their hunting dog in a forest near the town of Ružomberok in northern Slovakia may have other consequences for the participants, in addition to injuries and the loss of the dog. Investigators have opened a criminal case on suspicion of poaching. After a fight, the younger of the men shot the animal, which was defending its cubs. The older of the pair ended up in hospital with injuries.

For the first time in history, the Bojnice rehabilitation station has accepted such small bear cubs that lost their mother due to a violent attack in the forest near Ružomberok. The development of their health will determine their future fate.
