- The SSS initiated this fresh prosecution after rejecting previous life sentences as inadequate, arguing the original penalty failed to reflect the severity of crimes involving the abduction of 39 pupils and seven teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.
- Prosecutors added six counts to the existing charges, bringing the total to 10, with Ansaru commanders Mahmud Usman Muhammad and Abubakar Abbas accused of instructing members to kidnap and kill victims across Nigeria.
- A third count accuses all five defendants of concealing information that could have prevented the abduction of about 46 victims and the killing of two teachers, Michael Oyedokun and Deacon John Olaleye.
- Judge Ibrahim ordered the defendants to remain in SSS custody with unrestricted access to legal counsel, with proceedings resuming on September 25 as the agency pursues stiffer penalties against the convicted terrorists.
