Nintendo will stop selling the original Switch in Europe next year
Nintendo will replace selected products with revised versions that use user-replaceable batteries as EU rules take effect in 2027.
- Starting mid-February 2027, Nintendo will stop selling the Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED in Europe, following a rolling transition to versions with user-replaceable batteries.
- New European battery regulations require portable devices to feature user-replaceable batteries by February 18, 2027. Nintendo is updating its lineup to comply across the 35 markets it serves.
- Nintendo said products "will begin to be replaced on a rolling basis by revisions that contain a user-replaceable battery." Revisions include Joy-Cons, Pro Controller, and N64 and GameCube controllers.
- Several accessories including the Pro Controller and SNES will be retired without replacements. Nintendo acknowledged that "availability at retailers may also vary" due to manufacturing factors.
- Nearly ten years after the Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017, this transition marks the end of the original hardware family in Europe. Nintendo confirmed "sales of Nintendo Switch hardware on Nintendo Store will also end in mid-February 2027.
