More than 285,000 searches asked how to keep orchids alive, and Houseplant.co.uk said orchid care beat every other houseplant question by about 25 times.
- Analysis of Google search data by Devon nursery Houseplant shows more than 285,000 queries focused on orchid care over a year, beating other houseplant questions by roughly 25 times.
- Rebecca Tapper, founder of Houseplant, attributes the search surge to orchid gifting, as recipients often fear killing expensive plants that drive them to Google for help.
- Tapper added, "Half our job is talking people out of doing too much," explaining that orchids die from overwatering far more often than neglect in Britain.
- British searchers also frequently query care for peace lilies and fungus gnats; Houseplant has delivered more than 350,000 orders since launching from its Paignton, Devon nursery.
- The nursery expects orchid-related anxiety to peak following the Christmas season, when winter gifting places thousands of new Plants in homes across Britain.
