Having been rejected for the public service delegation obtained by its competitor Mayotte THD, Orange has decided to deploy fiber optics "using its own funds." A decision condemned by the island's authorities, but which the digital giant justifies by the destruction of its ADLS network by Cyclone Chido. "The passage of Cyclone Chido has disrupted the network landscape in Mayotte. Nearly 75% of the fixed copper infrastructure was destroyed.
On December 14, 2024, Cyclone Chido destroyed numerous electrical and telephone poles as well as several cabinets, leaving 75% of the operator's ADSL network out of service.
