Argentina Congress Accuses President Milei of Promoting Crypto Fraud
The report says 114,410 virtual wallets lost money in a $LIBRA crypto rug pull scheme linked to President Milei, with 36 wallets profiting over $1 million, lawmakers said.
- A commission chaired by opposition blocs released a final report on Tuesday in the Chamber of Deputies concluding President Javier Milei committed alleged fraud and forwarded findings to Congress after three months of investigation.
- On February 14, 2025, Milei posted a social-media call to invest in $Libra as it launched, boosting demand while creators sold at higher prices, triggering a collapse called a `rug pull` by industry specialists.
- A total of 114,410 virtual wallets suffered losses, with 498 losing more than $100,000 and 3,144 losing between $10,000 and $100,000, while 36 virtual wallets each earned more than $1 million after reviewing 10 technical and documentary files.
- The commission forwarded its conclusions to Congress to assess `poor performance`, but lawmakers say impeachment proposals have little chance, especially after new pro-Milei lawmakers take office on December 10.
- Lawmakers argued the $LIBRA case is not isolated, tracing similar December 2024 KIP Protocol token schemes and noting administration officials failed to cooperate, prompting the investigative committee to plan complaints.
