OPP Seeks Public Help Finding Missing Oshawa Pilot David Douglas

Police and family are asking boaters, pilots and cottagers to report sightings as searchers focus on Balsam Lake and nearby waterways.

  • On Friday, August 14, Pilot David Douglas, 73, departed Oshawa Executive Airport in a light blue and yellow amateur-built aircraft marked "FOFZ" on the tail and failed to return as expected.
  • Douglas is believed to be in the Kawartha Lakes area, specifically near Lake Scugog, Balsam Lake, Sturgeon Lake, or Cameron Lake, based on his known flight corridor north of Oshawa.
  • The family of Douglas is urging boaters, anglers, and cottagers in the Kawartha Lakes corridor to report sightings, while property owners are asked to check security cameras and dashcams for footage.
  • Durham Regional Police Service is working with the Ontario Provincial Police and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Trenton to coordinate the ongoing search effort.
  • Members of the public who locate the aircraft are warned not to approach it to avoid disturbing evidence or creating safety risks. Anyone with information should call 911 immediately.
