Two People Missing After Muskoka Boat Crash, Police Say
Police deployed underwater search crews after a Friday night collision left a severely damaged vessel on a rock ledge and two people missing.
Ontario Provincial Police recovery divers are searching Lake Rosseau for two people missing after a boat crash on Friday night near Backenrig Bay.
Officers responded to collision reports at 10:40 p.m. Friday, discovering a "severely damaged vessel" resting on a rock ledge but finding neither of the two people believed aboard.
The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit and "specialized OPP resources" have been deployed to Lake Rosseau. Initial extensive search efforts failed to locate either boater in the surrounding area.
Police are investigating the crash circumstances as "members of the public are asked to avoid the area" to allow emergency responders to safely conduct operations.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Bracebridge OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Those remaining anonymous may reach Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS .
