Opening of HS2 Line Set to Be Delayed Beyond 2033: Report

- Heidi Alexander, the Secretary of State for Transport, is set to reveal the findings of two investigations highlighting issues such as mismanagement, ineffective contracting, and claims of fraud involving subcontractors.
- The estimated cost rose from an original £37.5bn to between £49bn and £56.6bn , with the London to Birmingham leg’s opening now set between 2029 and 2033.
- The government appointed Mike Brown as the new HS2 chair to help reset infrastructure delivery and pledged that “consequences will be felt” over wasted taxpayer money.
