OpenAI Leans on Global Consultancies to Expand Codex Use in Large Companies

OpenAI said the program will help more than 4 million developers and enterprise teams move Codex from pilot projects to production use.

  • On Tuesday, April 21, 2026, OpenAI launched a formal partner program for its Codex AI coding tool, enlisting CGI and Cognizant as the first named global systems integrators to help enterprise clients deploy the technology.
  • This initiative serves as a distribution strategy to scale Codex into large organizations that lack internal capabilities to implement and govern the technology themselves.
  • Weekly usage of Codex has surged to more than 4 million developers, up from around 3 million earlier this month, as OpenAI contends with pressure from competitors including Anthropic, Microsoft, Google, and Amazon.
  • CGI is embedding Codex into its Software Engineering Group to modernize legacy code, with its 94,000 professionals automating reviews for clients across government and commercial sectors.
  • OpenAI is also launching Codex Labs to place specialists inside customer organizations, a move supporting its enterprise segment, which now accounts for more than 40% of company revenue.
