OpenAI Signs $30bn Data Centre Deal with Oracle

  • OpenAI signed a $30 billion annual deal to lease about 4.5 gigawatts of data centre power from Oracle in the United States for AI computing capacity.
  • This agreement significantly broadens OpenAI's Stargate initiative, originally started in partnership with SoftBank earlier this year, aimed at securing extensive computing resources to meet escalating demand and follows a recent deal revision with Microsoft.
  • Oracle will build multiple data centres across the US, including expanding a 1.2GW facility in Abilene, Texas, developed with data centre start-up Crusoe, to meet OpenAI’s growing infrastructure needs.
  • Oracle’s cloud infrastructure business generated $10.3 billion in revenue in 2025, and Oracle shares hit a record high on July 2 as investors reacted to the large contract.
  • The contract nearly triples Oracle’s current cloud revenue, reflects OpenAI’s long-term scaling strategy, and marks one of the largest AI-focused cloud agreements to date.
