One Indian national missing after attack on vessel off Oman, foreign ministry says

India said 10 of 11 nationals aboard the vessel were rescued, while search-and-rescue teams continued looking for the missing crew member.

  • On Sunday, India's Ministry of External Affairs confirmed an attack on the commercial vessel GFS Galaxy off the coast of Oman, with Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reporting 10 of the 11 Indian nationals on board rescued and one missing.
  • U.S. Central Command attributed the attack to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as the vessel transited the Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping route through which roughly 20 per cent of global oil passes.
  • Following the attack, President Donald Trump directed U.S. forces to launch a third round of strikes this week against Iran, targeting approximately 140 Iranian military sites including missile positions and naval capabilities.
  • Tensions flared as Iran hit out at bases across the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Qatar, with the Qatari military confirming it intercepted incoming missiles while falling shrapnel injured three people.
  • Expressing concern over the ongoing shipping attacks, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs reiterated its call for "immediate de-escalation of tensions" and urged all parties to pursue a diplomatic solution.
