Seven More Arrested in Organised Crime Crackdown After Deadly A66 Crash

Cleveland Police arrested seven more individuals on Friday as part of an operation disrupting organized crime following the fatal A66 crash, bringing total arrests to 24.
The investigation follows a fatal A66 collision near Middlesbrough on Saturday, August 22, when a Volkswagen Passat traveling the wrong way struck a police vehicle, killing seven people including officers Matthew Blades and Tom Clough.
Assistant Chief Constable Wayne Fox, leading the investigation, described it as complex with "significant links to serious and organised criminal activity." Some 200 extra officers have been deployed to support Cleveland Police.
Detained suspects range from 16 to 61 years old, facing charges including possession of firearms, drug supply, and participating in organized crime; many have been released on conditional bail.
Detectives confirmed on Friday that a separate house fire killing a seven-year-old girl and her aunt is not linked to the A66 crash investigation.
