A space mission pushed by an independent organization aims at Alpha du Centaure, the stellar system closest to the Solar System. But the journey is long, very, very long: it will take tens of thousands of years to get there. In the space sector, times are sometimes too long.
The first probe directed to another star could launch as early as 2029. However, its journey to Alpha Centauri will take so long that the mission's finale will only be seen by people living in the distant future.
Fermi Explorer, a non-profit organization, announced a fund-raiser for a new space mission – sending a small "robotized spacecraft" to the nearby Alpha Centauri star system.
