Without a formal mandate but with direct access to the highest Algerian authorities, Ségolène Royal invites himself into a bilateral relationship at a dead end. In Algiers, the former minister advances on the explosive ground of memory and political succession, where the French executive now seems to be running out of leverage.
Ségolène Royal, president of the association France-Algeria, has been in Algiers since Tuesday 27 January to meet Algerian officials outside the diplomatic channels. Shortly after his meeting with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, she called for dialogue between the Algerian and French capitals, while relations remain tense.
The new president of the Association France-Algeria met with the Algerian President, on the sidelines of official diplomacy, while the bilateral relationship derailed again.
