Omaha Set to Host Volleyball World Cup
The 32-nation event will be held in North America for the first time, with the top three unqualified teams earning 2028 Olympic spots.
- On Thursday, the FIVB announced that Omaha, Nebraska, Orlando, Florida, and Anaheim, California will host the 2027 Women's Volleyball World Cup. The 32-nation tournament runs August 20 through September 5, marking its first North American appearance.
- Omaha's CHI Health Center Arena and Orlando's Kia Center will host pool play and round-of-16 matches, while Anaheim's Honda Center stages the quarterfinals, semifinals, and final. The venue assignments reflect tournament structure by competition level.
- "USA Volleyball, Volleyball Canada, and the WVWC27 Local Host Committee are proud to announce a series of 'firsts' for the sport," said Craig Thompson, CEO of the WVWC27 Local Host Committee. Network ION will provide 17 days of coverage, including 19 live matches and 10 hours of studio show coverage.
- The tournament serves as an Olympic qualifier, with the top three national teams not yet qualified for the LA28 Games earning spots. Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen called the selection "no surprise," citing the state's exceptional volleyball fanbase.
- Formerly known as the world championships, the tournament now plays every two years instead of four, elevating the sport's profile. FIVB President Fabio Azevedo's announcement solidifies the United States' role in professional volleyball growth toward the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
