Ole Miss to Construct Archie Manning Statue on Campus

The campus tribute will be the fifth statue at Ole Miss and will depict Manning in a rollout pass.

  • On Saturday, Vice Chancellor for Intercollegiate Athletics Keith Carter announced plans to erect a 13-foot statue of Archie Manning outside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. The monument will be unveiled for the 2027 football season.
  • As a starter from 1968 to 1970, Manning led the Rebels to a 22-10-1 record and earned Heisman Trophy finalist honors twice. The Drew, Mississippi native was named Sugar Bowl MVP and selected second overall in the 1971 NFL Draft.
  • The bronze figure will be displayed between the Manning Football Complex and the stadium, joining four existing campus tributes. It recreates Manning executing a signature rollout pass from head coach Johnny Vaught's offense.
  • Manning, the patriarch of "The First Family of Football," expressed shock and honor upon learning of the commission. His sons Cooper, Peyton, and Eli Manning pursued professional football careers following his time at Ole Miss.
  • This new installation marks the fifth campus statue, honoring an iconic figure whose impact extends beyond the field. Carter noted the tribute reminds future generations of Manning's historical significance to Ole Miss.
