Oklahoma Quarter Horse Tests Positive for EIA

On March 6, a 5-year-old Quarter Horse mare used for barrel racing in Carter County, Oklahoma, tested positive for equine infectious anemia (EIA). The horse was not displaying clinical signs and was found positive on a routine annual Coggins test. She was euthanized.  The mare lived at a training facility, where 70 horses were potentially exposed.
