Okinawa Prefecture Issues Order to Halt Fishing of Bluefin Tuna over 30kg Until July 31st; Why It Is Asking for Cooperation in This "Important Initiative"

On the 23rd, the Okinawa Prefectural Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries issued an order to fishermen in the prefecture to suspend the catching of large bluefin tuna weighing 30kg or more from the 24th to July 31st. The measure comes after the prefecture exceeded 95% of the 203.2 tons of catch allowance allocated to it by the national government for the first half of fiscal 2025 (April 1st to July 31st).
