Oilpatch convinced Pacific Link will go ahead, but less certain of timing: survey
ATB Cormark found 77% of respondents expect a positive investment decision, but 53% think construction will not start until 2028 or later.
A recent ATB Cormark survey indicates 77 per cent of oilpatch firms expect the Pacific Link pipeline and Pathways carbon storage project will proceed.
Prime Minister Mark Carney designated the Alberta-proposed Pacific Link a national-interest project, qualifying it for expedited federal review contingent on Pathways emission offsets.
The survey polled 22 energy services firms, 27 exploration and production companies, and 42 institutional investors between Sept. 14 and Sept. 28.
Despite general optimism, 53 per cent of respondents anticipate construction delays until 2028 or later, reflecting industry uncertainty regarding the project's actual start date.
Alberta officials target a Sept. 1, 2027, construction start, while 24 per cent of surveyed respondents believe work will commence next year.
